Laboratory Supplies to Order

You will conduct the experiments for this class at home. You will need some basic laboratory equipment to complete these experiments. Below is a list of items you will need to safely and correctly complete the experiments in this course.

You must order the items provided in this list from Amazon. I have tested the items listed below and know they will work as required for the experiments we will be completing in this class. If you do not order the required materials as listed below, it could negatively impact your performance in this course and your safety while completing experiments.

I have provided the title and a link to the items you need to order below. I have tried to find the lowest possible price for the necessary lab supplies and, where possible, offered students a choice.

Safety Goggles

Safety goggles protect your eyes from chemical splashes and airborne debris that may be generated during laboratory procedures. Safety goggles must be worn at ALL times while conducting the experiments in this class.

Order one (1) of the two following safety goggles:

Digital Balance

A digital balance measures the mass of an object. Make sure that the capacity of the balance you order is at least 500g and measures to 0.1g. If you purchase a digital balance that has a capacity of less than 500g or doesn’t measure to 0.1g, it will not work properly for some of the experiments we conduct in this course, which may cause you to lose points on the postlab assignment.

Order one (1) of the following options for a digital balance:

Beakers and Graduated Cylinders

Beakers and graduated cylinders are used to measure volume. Graduated cylinders provide a more accurate measurement of volume than beakers. Typically, beakers are used for creating solutions and approximate volume measurements.

Order one (1) of the following graduated cylinder/beaker kits:

Digital Thermometer

Digital thermometers measure temperature. Always make sure you thermometer is on Celsius (°C) when taking measurements in this course. The digital thermometers we use in this course must measure to 0.1°C.

Order one (1) of the following graduated thermometers.

Other Laboratory Items

Below are several other items you will need to complete the experiments in this course. Order one (1) of each item listed below:

Purchasing Your Lab Supplies

If you are an Amazon Prime Member, you can receive free shipping on qualifying items. If you are not a Prime member, you can get a free 6-month student membership (ages 18-24). If you order all of your items together, the cost of them may be enough to qualify for free shipping even if you aren’t a Prime Member.

Prices listed above may vary from those on Amazon. The total cost of your order before tax and shipping is estimated between $70 and $90.

PLEASE NOTE: This is just the basic laboratory equipment you will need to complete the labs in this class. This does not include other chemicals or household items you may also need for the experiments we complete in this course. Please see the top of each experiment for a full list of supplies and chemicals needed.

These required laboratory materials should be ordered before the end of the Module 1 (the sooner the better) and need to be received before the start of Module 3. I will not grant extensions because you did not have the required supplies to complete an experiment. Plan ahead and order these supplies immediately. If you are a PSEO student enrolled in this class during the fall or spring semesters, you can get these supplies for free by contacting the Riverland Bookstore.

If you are unable to find any of the items listed above, please contact your instructor immediately for assistance. They can help you find a replacement that will meet the needs of this class.

If you have any questions about these items or this course, please contact your instructor.
